- When the son of a neighbor is severely injured, a doctor at the Sherman Ranch is forced to help. However, the father wants revenge when the son's arm is amputated and he learns the doctor is a man he once arrested.
- A wagon accident results in severe injures to Steve Prescott, son of wealthy rancher Vic Prescott who happens to be away from the ranch. The foreman, Hobey, sends two of the men on the long ride to Laramie for Dr. Phillips. Stopping at the Sherman ranch for fresh horses, they find a doctor there waiting for the stage to leave after changing horses. The men force the doctor to go with them as Jess is in Laramie and Slim is rounding up strays. Mike goes after Slim who returns and heads to the Prescott ranch to check on the doctor. The doctor is forced to amputate Steve's left arm which everyone knows will upset his father but he believes Steve will fully recover. Vic upon returning is an angry father who believes that the doctor maimed his son. While returning to the Sherman ranch, the doctor informs Slim that he is the much hated Dr. Samuel Mudd who helped John Wilkes Booth. Vic Prescott also believes that Dr. Mudd, convicted of aiding John Wilkes Booth in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, has escaped from prison. He will do anything to make sure Dr. Mudd dies, including going against his friends and Slim Sherman.—DarSpi
