- After Ward reprimands him for being rude and inconsiderate, Beaver tries to do a good deed for Jeff, a hungry hobo with a hard luck story, who knocks on the Cleavers' kitchen door while Ward and June are out. Jeff convinces Beaver to make him a sandwich and let him take a bath but Beaver finds himself in hot water when his wily guest sneaks out of the house in one of Ward's good suits leaving a pile of dirty clothes for June to find when she comes home.—shepherd1138
- Beaver's parents chastise him for his inconsideration at canceling a job sitting with Bengie Bellamy at the last minute so that he and Gilbert can go to the movies instead. Although Ward makes him cancel his date with Gilbert to sit with Bengie, Beaver learns that his inconsideration has led to Mrs. Bellamy already having found another sitter, and Beaver losing what used to be his exclusive job of sitting with Bengie whenever required. Later, Beaver balks at doing Wally a favor, even though it would be no effort on Beaver's part to do so. So Ward impresses on Beaver, by highlighting his actions on these two issues, that he should be less selfish and more considerate toward others. While Beaver and Gilbert are alone at the house, an old hobo named Mr. Jeffries - Jeff to his friends - comes by for a handout. As Jeff is seemingly in need, Beaver, taking his father's words to heart, decides to let Jeff in the house and feed him. And when Jeff learns that no adults are around, he asks Beaver to use the washroom to clean up. Deep in his heart, Beaver knows what he did was not safe, and he has to reconcile in his own mind the two sides of the issue, especially after Jeff sneaks out of the house undetected, seemingly with some items that belong to Ward.—Huggo
