The Bannermans, good friends of the Cleavers, moved out of town a few years ago. Mrs. Bannerman and their daughter, Kitty Bannerman, are returning to Mayfield for a short visit. Mrs. Bannerman wants Wally to escort Kitty to a country club dance on Saturday, but Wally, who seems nervous about the request, makes up an excuse for not being able to escort Kitty. Wally confides to Beaver that he and Kitty have been writing to each other over the past year, Wally only doing so to impress other guys at summer camp that he is receiving romantic letters from his supposed girlfriend. Wally, having no intention of ever seeing Kitty, lied in his letters to her about his life to match Kitty's glamorous stories about her life. When Ward and June find out that Wally lied about being busy on Saturday night, they force him to take Kitty to the dance. Wally tries to get out of his predicament with Kitty without looking like the poor schlub he feels like.
