The Ranger and Tonto arrive in Peaceful Valley to find their old friend Marshal Jim Wade has been dead for two years and the town is overrun by lawlessness. The new marshal, Vince Barrett, married Jim's widow Martha and is stepfather to young Jackie Wade. The false face gang has been committing the robberies. They wear identical full face masks that make them all look like Ronald Reagan with a handlebar mustache. Vince seems to be purposely ineffective in finding the false face gang, but why? The Ranger and Tonto don Mexican peon disguises to learn the meaning of a whistled tune that seems to upset Vince greatly. Why does that rancher whistle the tune when Vince is around? And why does it bother Vince? What is the dark secret that weighs on him so much? This is a good, suspenseful episode with quite a few indoor scenes.
