M-SQUAD – Girl Lost-1958

This is the 26th episode of the 1957 to 1960 Crime series, M-SQUAD. The series ran for 117 episodes and features Lee Marvin as the headliner. Marvin is a Lt with the elite M-Squad unit of the Chicago Police.

Chicago Police Detective Lee Marvin gets involved with a woman who seems to be suffering from memory loss. The woman, Margaret Field, got clipped by a car while running across the street. Marvin digs up some info that ties the woman to a five year old robbery of a half million in cash. Only $250,000 of the take was ever recovered.

The man responsible had died in prison without coughing up the cash. The dead man was the husband of Field. Complicating matters is gunman, Bill Williams. Williams, just out of prison, had shared a cell with the now dead hold-up man. He knows all about the cash and wants it for himself. A twist here, a turn there, a kidnapping etc are all thrown in before good old fashioned detective work solves the case.

Frank Can Pick 'Em
ccthemovieman-118 March 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Frank has great intuition about women. He seems to know who is a good person and who isn't, usually one who is good that nobody else thinks is worth much. But, somehow, Frank knows.

This is the not first story in this first season in which "Det. Lt. Frank Ballinger" (series star Lee Marvin) sticks up for a woman and tries to find out the truth of a case which, in the end, would make her look not guilty.

The woman in this episode is "Laura Canby" (Margaret Field). She is the wife of a gangster, and I'll say no more. Yes, it's a little unrealistic to believe she is totally innocent but there are some unique circumstances at play here which make this another interesting episode.
