- A decorated GI confides to Hawkeye that he was beaten by his own unit for being gay but Frank Burns is outraged when he finds out from another source and tries to have the soldier dishonorably discharged.
- Working on the four-time wounded and highly decorated Private Weston, Frank asks Hawkeye if he is paid hourly; and Trapper serenades the O.R. Hawkeye notices all of Weston's bruises and injuries seem to result from brawling; Weston confesses he is gay. Frank finds out and wants to report Weston as subversive, unfit for duty and get him a Dishonorable Discharge. The guys know they cannot appeal to Frank's better self so they resort to the tried and true method: blackmail.—LA-Lawyer
- Hawkeye and Trapper have put in another set of grueling hours in surgery. During one of the operations, Frank made a mistake, and Hawkeye helped him out of his mess. Frank is eager to make sure every soldier is put back to the front line, as soon as they recover in post op. Henry disagrees in one particular care and orders that the man (in a plaster) be sent for a 2 week R&R in Tokyo, despite Frank's objections.
Among the latest batch of wounded soldiers treated at the 4077th is a young soldier, Private George Weston (Richard Ely), who is also heavily bruised in addition to the leg wound he received in battle. After brushing off Frank Burns' (Larry Linville) suggestions he had been involved in a fist fight, Weston confides to Hawkeye (Alan Alda) that he had been beaten up by soldiers from his unit after he got drunk and inadvertently admitted to being a homosexual. Weston wants to go back to his outfit, and Hawkeye cannot understand this. Weston wants to finish his tour of duty, no matter what it takes. Hawkeye is getting a pain in his elbow and cant diagnose it.
Back in their quarters, Hawkeye and Trapper (Wayne Rogers) discuss the beatings and Frank admits he finds Weston's sexuality "disgusting", in contrast to his initial admiration of Weston for being on front-line active service. Frank says Weston is not normal. Frank says this is the kind of weakness in the US army that an enemy can exploit. Frank decides not to treat Weston anymore and takes himself off Weston's duty doctor's roster. Houlihan objects to this and Frank has to admit to her that Weston is a homosexual, which he finds disgusting. Frank initiates moves to have Weston dishonorably discharged from the Army. He even pressurizes Henry to sign the forms by threatening to go over his head, if he refuses. Radar gives Henry his monthly medical check-up.
Radar reports Frank's plan to Hawkeye and Trapper. Hawkeye and Trapper confront Henry, who says that he hasn't signed the papers. But Frank has decided to go over his head, once again. So, they would have to convince Frank, not to report the matter to regimental. Frank works with Houlihan to fill the forms on Weston. In order to convince Frank not to proceed, Hawkeye and Trapper stage a mock argument (Trapper pretends to agree with Frank's position on Weston, and Hawkeye threatening to move out of the swamp on account of this "fraud".. Frank is pleased at this turn of events and considers Trapper his friend.. Even calls him Trap.. Hakweye continues to argue that everybody has a past and that even Trapper would have done something in his past that would not be strictly legal), during which Trapper 'confesses' to having bought the answers for a medical school examination for $100, which leads Frank to admit that he did, too and paid $400 for it. Hawkeye and Trapper admit their ruse and Frank is persuaded to drop his actions.
