Should be dead funny, but isn't.

Dan Castellaneta guest stars in this episode (his second appearance on the show), but even the combined might of Homer Simpson and Al Bundy cannot make it a classic, the writing once again letting things down, the gags lacking the sparkle and wit of earlier seasons. It's not as bad as the previous episode, Rock of Ages, but it still feels a long way from the greatness of season five. Usually, when reviewing episodes, I like to mention the lines that make me laugh hardest, but recently I have found this harder and harder to do.

Castellaneta plays the funeral director who arranges a plot for Al for when the time comes. Al wants to be buried next to his favourite Western movie sidekick, Fuzzy McGee, which naturally upsets Peggy. The subject of death is ripe for dark humour, but somehow the writers of this one repeatedly miss the mark: the lamest gag sees the funeral director show Bud and Kelly a coffin shaped like a turtle shell with a slice of pizza on it, part of their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle range. How 1992.
