- TriviaThe reason that Mary Richards moved from her apartment at 119 N. Weatherly, where she'd lived since the series began, was actually due to the house's owner, who was upset that the house had become famous from its identification with this series. The producers thought everything was okay - as they were going to Minneapolis to shoot some new 'exteriors' of the house and area, to keep the series fresh. They'd last done this two years earlier. However, when they arrived, the house's owner had put huge banners in front - saying: 'impeach Nixon'.
- GoofsThe episode closes with the gang sitting or lying in a semicircle on the living room floor, toasting Mary's new apartment; the champagne and glasses are resting on several sheets of newspaper laid out on the floor between the players, ostensibly to protect the carpet from possible spills. As the scene ends and the closing credits are displayed, for no apparent reason the newspapers toward the front of the set (closest to Ted) start to rustle and lift off the carpet. The only way this could happen is if crew members in front of the set did something to disrupt the airflow on set, resulting in the newspapers getting picked up by this sudden gust of air.
- Quotes
Murray Slaughter: You know something? I just figured out why we're having trouble convincing Mary that life in this newsroom isn't boring. It's because it is boring.
Lou Grant: It is?
Murray Slaughter: Yeah! I mean, I'm bored. What do I do all day?
[Gets up from his desk and points toward the teletype machine]
Murray Slaughter: I go in there and I take the news out of that doohinkey.
[Points at his typewriter]
Murray Slaughter: And then I rewrite it on this doohinkey.
[Points at the TV set next to his desk]
Murray Slaughter: And then I turn on that doohinkey,
[points at Ted, who's pouring himself a cup of coffee]
Murray Slaughter: and watch it come out of that doohinkey.
