Because ratings have become stagnant and low, the guys upstairs have decided to bring in an efficiency expert to figure out ways to get the ratings up. Richard Mazur (an actor that I always liked) is a young man who has total permission to do what he wants. While the staff doesn't like it, his suggestions are quite reasonable. At one point Mary goes into Lou's office to talk about how bad morale is, but Lou tells her, in a really funny way, that they have gained a point in the ratings. But then, suddenly, he quits. The reasons are fair but it doesn't stop Ted suggest that Mary give herself to him to keep him there. Of course, she is outraged. This is really quite a nice episode. Oh, I realize that Valerie Harper (Rhoda) left for New York to have her own spin off show. But it reminded me of the disappearance of the eldest son (Tim Considine) on "My Three Sons." No one even makes a reference to her.
