The Best Of The Maude Musicals
Jimmy_the_Gent413 January 2020
Maude is putting on a telethon for gall bladders but the sponsor in charge pulls out, leaving her with a show with no disease.

One of the funniest of Season 3 and the best of the "put on a show" episodes. The theme of the show is supposed to be a salute to Hollywood. It begins with Maude singing a scat song done by Martha Raye in "Rhythm On The Range". There are some funny topical jokes about naturalist Euell Gibbons and Olympic swimmer Mark Spitz. Richard Stahl appears as an exasperated TV station manager. He threatens to pull the show off the air and put on a Perry Mason rerun if no disease is found. Maude at first tells the audience it is for a mystery disease. Carol does a Carmen Miranda number while Arthur sings "Yankee Doodle Dandy." Walter and Mrs Naugatuck do a tribute to "Waterloo Bridge". Mrs N is hilarious playing a lady of the evening and singing an off key song. Maude explains there is a celebrity to appear- Paul Anka's gardener!. When even he doesn't show, Maude belts out "My Way" but doesn't know when to stop. As the gang sing "Hooray For Hollywood" we see Perry Mason suddenly appear on the TV monitor for the final laugh.
