A deserted friendship
JordanThomasHall15 November 2019
From the plane everyone admires the view of the Grand Canyon, except Howard who is busy flirting with the stewardess (Sandra de Bruin). They arrive at the grand mission-style home Selma has allowed them to stay in while she's away in Europe. Tensions quickly mount between Howard and Goober upon sharing a room together. Goober, Howard, Sam, and Millie take a dune buggy ride across the desert sand but run out of gas. A passerby (Kirk Nyby) is able to give Sam and Millie a lift for gas, leaving Goober and Howard alone together in the hot desert. Hours pass and a sandstorm appears to be approaching. How will this affect the old friends?

Palm Springs was the highlight

They writers had to come up with a main theme. Sort of a cop out that it was Goober Pyle (George Lindsey) and Howard Sprague (Jack Dodson) arguing. Took up quite a lot of the episode leaving little for the other actors.

Ridiculous taking a desert dune buggy rental in a seemingly distant isolated trek without checking the gas and not bringing water. I'd think the rental company sends the buggys out with a full tank of gas for safety assurance.

Shame Millie Swanson (Arlene Golonka) and Emmett Clark (Paul Hartman) had so little screentime. Probably took some camera trickery or a stunt double to prevent Ken Berry's toupee from getting wet at the pool.
