  John Beresford Tipton : [Chuckles]  I don't blame you for being apprehensive, Mike.

  [the lid of a hive containing bees is open a bit. Buzzing can be heard] 

  John Beresford Tipton : A bee sting is no trifle. But at the moment, the workers are busy feeding the queen bee.

  [Closes the lid of the hive] 

  John Beresford Tipton : You know, of course, the queen bee shows her gratitude by stinging her slaves to death. Human beings are even more interesting than bees - especially human queen bees.

  [Tipton hands an envelope to Anthony] 

  John Beresford Tipton : Our next millionaire, Mike.

• Michael Anthony : [Anthony rings the doorbell of the Hartley home. Anna responds]  Good afternoon. Are you Mrs. Anna Hartley?

  Anna Hartley : Yes.

  Michael Anthony : May I come in for a moment? I have something important for you.

  Anna Hartley : [Starting to close the door]  Oh, well I'm sorry, but I'm awfully busy.

  Michael Anthony : Mrs. Hartley, I'm not trying to sell you anything. I have something to give you.

  Anna Hartley : You have something to give me?

  Michael Anthony : Yes.

  Anna Hartley : All right. Come on in.

  [Anthony enters] 

  Anna Hartley : Sit down.

  Michael Anthony : [Opening his briefcase as he sits]  Thank you.

  Anna Hartley : Now what is it that you have to give me?

  Michael Anthony : [Handing Anna a check]  This.

  [Anna laughs] 

  Michael Anthony : I don't blame you for not believing your eyes. But it really is a cashier's check for $1,000,000, made out to you. And it's free and clear. The gift tax has been paid.

  Anna Hartley : One million dollars. One million dollars. What's it for?

  Michael Anthony : Anything you wish. There's only one condition.

  [Displaying a document] 

  Michael Anthony : You must sign this pledge that you will tell no one except your husband how or where you got this money or the exact amount. If you violate the pledge, whatever you have left will be reclaimed on behalf of the donor.

  Anna Hartley : A million dollars.

  Michael Anthony : Will you sign the pledge, please?

  [Anna signs and Anthony retains the paper] 

  Michael Anthony : Thank you.

  Anna Hartley : Do I, um, have to tell my husband about this money?

  Michael Anthony : [Anthony has a surprised but somber look on this face]  No, indeed. You don't have to tell him anything.

  Anna Hartley : With a million dollars, you could make a man believe in himself, couldn't you?

  Michael Anthony : [Soberly]  There are some things that even a million dollars won't buy. Goodbye, Mrs. Hartley.

  Anna Hartley : Goodbye.

  Michael Anthony : [to the viewers]  My name is Michael Anthony. For many years, I was employed as executive secretary to John Beresford Tipton, a multibillionaire. Here at Silverstone, his estate, which covered 60,000 acres, John Beresford Tipton ruled a large segment of the financial world and engaged in many charitable works and hobbies. Not the least of his hobbies was giving away $1,000,000 to men and women he had never seen.
