Marvin Miller: Michael Anthony

Quotes

  • Michael Anthony : [Anthony enters the study to see Tipton seated in a high-backed chair at his desk, smoking a cigar and reading a book. Only Tipton's left hand, holding the book, is visible to viewers]  You sent for me, sir?

John Beresford Tipton : Mike, I've just been reading a book about famous adventurers.

[Lays the book down on the desk]

Michael Anthony : Sounds interesting, sir.

John Beresford Tipton : Yes, they are interesting. They all seem driven by an insatiable curiosity. They also have another thing in common. They're all attractive to women. Why do you think women feel that way about them, Mike?

Michael Anthony : [Smiling]  Well, I'm afraid I'm in no position to answer that question, sir.

John Beresford Tipton : Don't underestimate yourself, Mike.

[Tipton chuckles and hands an envelope to Anthony]

John Beresford Tipton : Well, perhaps our next millionaire may answer the question for us.

[Anthony accepts and envelope and smiles]

  • Michael Anthony : [Reviewing a case history, to the viewers]  Our next millionaire was Crystal Sands, a pretty name and a pretty girl. A girl in love with Jimmy Martin, a handsome young pilot.

  • Michael Anthony : [Anthony is seated at a table in the airport café. He calls out to his waitress]  Oh, miss.

    Crystal Sands : Yes, sir.

Michael Anthony : [Pushing his payment toward her]  May I have my change, please?

Crystal Sands : Thank you, sir. Out of five.

[Notes a check on the platter]

Crystal Sands : Oh, I'm sorry, sir, we don't cash checks.

Michael Anthony : Keep it. You might call it a tip.

Crystal Sands : Thank you, sir.

    [Examines the check. Stunned]

Crystal Sands : This check is for...

Michael Anthony : [Interrupting in hushed voice]  Yes, Miss Sands. It's for $1,000,000.

Crystal Sands : What is this? One of Jimmy's jokes?

Michael Anthony : A cashier's check is not a joke, Miss Sands. I'm Michael Anthony, and that check is a gift to you, tax-free, from an anonymous donor.

    Crystal Sands : But I don't understand.

Michael Anthony : [Producing a form from his briefcase]  You will understand as soon as you sign this document. As you can see, you merely pledge yourself not to reveal the amount of this gift or how you got it to anyone except your husband, should you marry.

Crystal Sands : You mean this is real?

Michael Anthony : Quite real, Miss Sands. Will you sign?

Crystal Sands : I think I'd better sit down.

    Michael Anthony : Please do.

    [Crystal sits at Anthony's table]

Michael Anthony : Now remember, if you tell anyone, the balance of the money or any tangible assets therefrom, will be reclaimed.

[Crystal signs and Anthony retains the agreement]

Michael Anthony : Well, that's that. Miss Sands, that's a great deal of money. I hope it brings you happiness.

Crystal Sands : Oh, Mr. Anthony, if this check is real, I can have everything I want. But for the next few days, I'm going on a spending spree everybody dreams about.

    [darkly]

Crystal Sands : And then, Mr. Anthony, I'll have everything I want - everything.

Michael Anthony : [Concerned about the sudden dim tone of Crystal's conversation]  Yes, ma'am

  • Michael Anthony : [to the viewers]  My name is Michael Anthony, and during his lifetime, I was executive secretary to John Beresford Tipton, a fabulous multibillionaire. In addition to supporting many organized charities, he frequently gave away a million dollars - one million dollars, tax-free - to someone who had never met him and was, in fact, completely unaware of his existence. This is Silverstone, the fantastic 60,000-acre estate, where I served John Beresford Tipton. One night, I was told that Mr. Tipton wanted to see me in his study.
