- Michael Anthony: [Viewers see Anthony entering the library to discover Tipton seated in a high-backed chair at his desk with a blackboard beside him. Only Tipton's right hand, holding a pointer, is visible] You sent for me, sir?
- John Beresford Tipton: Mike,
- [pointing the blackboard]
- John Beresford Tipton: you will observe an equilateral triangle. Take the chalk and draw a horizontal line across its apex.
- [Anthony does so]
- John Beresford Tipton: Do you notice the similarity between the triangle and the Scale of Justice?
- Michael Anthony: Yes, sir, I do.
- John Beresford Tipton: Well, there is something besides Justice involved in the problem of our next millionaire.
- [Tipton hands an envelope to Anthony]
- John Beresford Tipton: Let us see what a million dollars will do to tip the scales one way or another.
- Michael Anthony: [Examining the envelope with furrowed brow] Two women, sir?
- John Beresford Tipton: No, Mike: one woman, two names. I'll be interested to know which one gets it.
- Michael Anthony: [Valerie responds to the buzzer on her front door] Mrs. Thomas Hunt?
- Valerie Hunt: Yes.
- Michael Anthony: My name is Michael Anthony.
- Valerie Hunt: What can I do for you, Mr. Anthony?
- Michael Anthony: [Opens his briefcase and extracts a check and a document] You can sign this paper acknowledging the gift to you of $1,000,000.
- [Displays the agreement to Valerie. The scene shifts to a few minutes later with Anthony and Valerie sitting on a sofa, going over the requirements]
- Michael Anthony: And, of course, the tax on the million has been paid. The only conditions are that you tell no one the amount or the source, except your husband.
- Valerie Hunt: Well, I'm afraid that I'm in rather a peculiar position. I...
- [Valerie signs the pledge which Anthony retains]
- Michael Anthony: The donor is aware of that.
- [Anthony hands the check to Valerie]
- Valerie Hunt: [Looking closely at the check] Pay to the order of Mrs. Thomas Hunt *or* Mrs. Tracy Regan.
- Michael Anthony: Perhaps this gift will help you make the decision. Good day, and good luck.
- Michael Anthony: [Reviewing a case history file, to the viewers] There were two names on the check Mr. Tipton gave me: Mrs. Thomas Hunt and Mrs. Tracy Regan. I couldn't understand why, but I found out.
- Michael Anthony: [to the viewers] My name is Michael Anthony. Perhaps you remember that, for many years, I was executive secretary to the fabulously wealthy John Beresford Tipton. Here in the seclusion of his 60,000-acre estate, Silverstone, Mr. Tipton followed many hobbies. Of course, his most fantastic hobby was making a gift of $1,000,000, tax-free, to some unsuspecting individual.
