Several of the early episodes for the re-launched "Mission: Impossible" series were simply old script from the original show...an economical but awful way to being a 'new' series. This is one of the retread episodes.
When the show begins, you learn that the government wants to prosecute some gangster and the only one who could bring him down is his friend, Frank Marley. But Marley truly is this gangster's friend...and would never talk...that is, without the IM Force's help! The plan is to convince Marley that his friend is actually planning on killing him-- thus guaranteeing no one could testify.
The episode takes place at a fancy casino resort run by Marley for the mob. While he's done a fine job with the place and things are just fine, the IM team does several nasty things. First, they have a fake assassin meet with Marley to tell him he refused a commission to kill him! Marley doesn't believe this. Then, however, they arrange for a special auditor (Phelps) to arrive and go over all the books...which makes it sound as if the mob doesn't trust him! There's more...but you should just see this one yourself.
Good...but not only a retreat but it leaves you wondering why they went to so much trouble instead of just using a hit-man to kill the mobster they want to convict!
