As Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork walk into the saloon, Micky bumps into A Lil cowboy and if you look closely that is Davy Jones.
This adventure parodies two popular western TV series: The Lone Ranger (1949) which was based on a 1933 radio series (Micky Dolenz as the Lone "Stranger" and Peter Tork as "Pronto"), and Bonanza (1959) (the "Cartwheels" instead of Cartwrights).
Following the death of Michael Nesmith on December 10, 2021, MeTV aired four episodes of The Monkees as a tribute. In addition to this one, the other episodes shown were "I've Got A Little Song Here", "Monkee Mayor", and "Fairy Tale".
After the series opening montage ends, a musical cue from the iconic Western film The Magnificent Seven (1960) is heard. It was also previously heard in A Nice Place to Visit (1967).
Barton MacLane who played Black Bart here had a decade earlier played Pinkerton Detective Nolan in Circus Boy (1956): The Tumbling Clown (1957) on the first occasion where he worked with then child star Micky Dolenz.
