Herman Is No 'Fred Astaire'
ccthemovieman-127 June 2007
Don Rickles guest stars as "Happy Havemeyer," the dance instruction owner. Ironically, I just finished reading Rickles' biography, "Rickles Book," yesterday in which he mentioned he had to do a number of guest shots for TV shows in the mid '60s as he was trying to make a name for himself in the acting industry. As most people know, his acting career was so-so at best but he became a famous comedian with his insult humor.

Anyway, Marilyn's school is having "parents night" and the evening involves dancing. Since Marilyn knows Herman hates dancing and is no good at it, she doesn't tell him about it, but Lily finds out....and then talks Herman into getting dance lessons after a little home- schooling doesn't work. Herman also demolishes the entire living room trying to dance

The bulk of the story then revolves around the dance school, run by the aforementioned crooked owner who gets dummies (like Herman) to think their great dancers and signs them up for 10 years worth of lessons at a big cost. Actually, Joyce Jameson as the instructor "Miss Valentine," gets more laughs in here than Rickles' character.

How Herman gets out of this deal is the rest of the story, which is so-so overall. With Rickles, I was hoping it would be a little funnier.
