- Jessica visits her old friend, Carrie McKittrick, now rich after the discovery of oil on her farm. She arrives in the middle of a family crisis as Carrie has drawn up a new will leaving nothing to her son Harvey and grandson Sam and everything to a televangelist, the Rev. Willie John Fargo of the Electric Cathedral. The confrontation with them leads to a heart attack and she is quickly hospitalized. When she dies as a result, Harvey and Sam produce an alternate will - an obvious forgery - but Jessica begins to think that her friend didn't die of natural causes. The evidence, including his fingerprints, points to Fargo as the killer but Jessica thinks the murderer is someone else.—garykmcd
