PUT ANOTHER PLATE ON THE TABLE FOR MR. O'GRADY!
tcchelsey4 January 2024
Very familiar story, which was also done on LEAVE IT TO BEAVER, still fun to watch after all these years.

Ernie, the friend of the friendless, happens to meet a homeless man (with lots of personality!) in the park. His name is Edward Alexander O'Grady (played by famous Eddie Foy, Jr), and he could sure use a change of scenery. So.... Ernie brings him home to meet the family, or his newly adopted family, and he stays, and stays and stays.

Steve and Uncle Charley take a different approach!

Food for thought about this story, and many like it; characters with so much charisma -- if not nerve! -- would have been successful in their own right had they just got off that park bench! Mr. O'Grady would have made a dynamic salesman with a future! Dorothy Cooper wrote this interesting story, slash character study, and over 20 for the series, many others for FATHER KNOWS BEST.

Eddie Foy, Jr., the son of the famous vaudeville performer, turns in a terrifc performance, without too much surprise. The episode may have been specially written for him as he was quite popular at the time in tv and films, often playing his father.

Another classic "nice guy" Ernie episode, who inspired all of us kids back in the day. From SEASON 7 EPISODE 29.
