***SPOILERS*** After a series of push in robberies in the upper West Side of Manhattan neighborhood that young women are targeted it's decided by the local police to use a young woman police officer as a decoy to catch the push in robber. Getting 24 year old woman cop Virginia Mckenzie, Pat McAaney, to go undercover to trap the robber put her boss Let. Mike Haines, Jack Warden, a bit ill at ease feeling that she's too inexperience weak, even though she's a black belt in judo, and not up to the task at hand.
For almost two weeks the robber seems to have gone on vacation without any push in robberies reported in the area. And when the police are about to call it all off he suddenly strikes again and the catch the push in robber that the police that are backing up Officer McKenzie overlook the fact that he suddenly became a two story man sneaking in through the window not pushing through the door to get at his victims.
***SPOILERS*** With Let. Haines and his men covering the front door to Officer McKenzie's apartment the mugger known only as "The Man",Peter "Bat" Masterson, breaks in through the fire escape window in McKenzie's apartment and in a wild struggle by him blocking her judo chops he has the helpless woman police officer down for the count and about to get sliced by him. That's until Let. Haines by pretending to be her drunken boyfriend catches him off guard and with the help of his fellow policemen, uniformed and plain clothes, takes him after a brief struggle into custody. What this all showed is that a woman police officer no matter how in good shape she is can't take on a full grown-and crazed-180 to 200 pound man all by herself like Officer McKenzie tried to convince Let. Haines that she can do. And she was very lucky that there were a number of men-Policemen-on hand to come to her rescue when she really needed them.
