Desperate People in a Desperate Situation
Hitchcoc30 May 2014
The story begins in a small town. Two kids, a doctor's children, are left to their own devices. He is asked to look out for her, but she is headstrong and runs away. She finds herself in a cave, and before he can enter, she is seemingly engulfed in a green glow. It appears some alien force has taken up in the cave. The kids run away. Now we go fifteen years into the future. We find that the town has died. There has been a catastrophic plague and the doctor is blamed because his daughter has survived. He is also blamed for the closing of a mill that destroyed the town. When the government couldn't figure out what happened, they settled on a pollution issue with the mill. His son, on the other hand, is left in a coma and has been cared for for years. The girl suffers from learning disabilities and a series of therapists have plied their trade. Now a handsome young doctor with new ideas has entered the picture. Also, during this time, the young woman hears voices calling her back to the cave. She is a gifted artist despite her other disabilities, and sculpts the face of an alien. The strength of this Outer Limits episode is in the efforts to discover the source of her life change and to piece together the plague.

Knowledge Is Power

Warning: Spoilers
I remember when this show came out in the mid to later 90's. It was a terrific series on FOX. It was just like the X-Files, but a tad bit better. I just watched Glyphic, and was amazed by this episode. When I read the review I thought it would be like an outbreak of a particular virus, but it had a different meaning altogether. The cast was excellent; and the plot gave the viewer something to think about. The reason why this series was popular was it out there in some episodes;and it did make you think in other episodes, especially this one. It did have an extraterrestrial meaning; and to some would be a turn off, but to me it makes you think. What would we do if we had extraterrestrial knowledge to help cure loved ones; and others from an illness/disease, would we use it? Kris L. CocKayne
