Patty's painting
JordanThomasHall5 August 2020
Patty has completed a painting in art class that she is doubting and reluctant to show anyone. It's a hypnotic, abstract spiral that works to the center of the canvas in optical art style- without optical effect. Her family cordially compliment it in a reserved manner, but their disapproval is easy to read for Patty. Martin, however, compliments it to the point Patty gains confidence in it and frames it to hang in the living room. Patty's friends had their paintings brushed off and they say her parents will soon do the same. When Mrs. Marlow (Natalie Masters) comes to pick up a rocker for the church auction, she compliments a statuette on the mantle that Martin mistakes for praising the painting. In the mixup, she feels inclined to accept it for the auction. Patty brings her friends over to find the painting gone. When it's explained that it is to be auctioned at the bazaar she is afraid no one will bid on it. Richard pays his friends to go and bid. Martin, Cathy, and Ross do the same, confident there will be no other bidders. Each makes the other think the painting is more desirable than they realize, and things get comically out of hand.
