When Richard's parents go out of town for a week Patty offers Richard to stay with them. Martin and Natalie are apprehensive, but go along with it. He quickly becomes an annoyance by eating most of the food, taking multiple showers back-to-back that ties up the bathroom, waking up Ross in the middle of the night to try and talk him out of his bed, waking up the household bright and early, and being loud and clumsy. Patty: "We got a card from Richard's folks this morning. They're having a wonderful time." Martin (depressed tone): "I wish I was there." Soon, Richard draws Patty's ire after he interferes with a date, Freddie (Stuffy Singer, "Blondie"). After gloating to his parents on the phone about how much the Lanes love him, he overhears them discuss their displeasure with his being there.
