- A nightclub singer makes an unscheduled appearance on stage when she falls through a skylight. When the police rule her death accidental, her wealthy jockey boyfriend hires Peter Gunn to find the truth.
- Prologue: A lady falls through the glass skylight from above to the floor in a select nightclub, no dialogue, just the shattering glass as the body of the woman misses the piano directly below the glass. Pete visits the friend of the jockey whose girlfriend, a singer, fell through the sky light at the Pink Cloud Sky Room, dead. Billy Arnet is the jockey, Jason Willows is the friend, and Billy wants Pete to find out who murdered her, because Billy thinks it was murder. Jason and Pete walk to the house, Ned Parks, Billy's agent, greets them both, tells Jason Billy wants to see him in the den, and is abrupt with our PI, what he says goes, no need to see Billy, he says. Pete thinks otherwise. The agent thinks she was after Billy's money, that she was conniving, Billy hears, tells Ned to stifle, invites Pete into the den alone with Jason leaning against the fireplace. Caroline Stephens was her name, Billy thought a great deal of her, and thinks she was killed, as she knew the rooftop area well, there is just no way it was an accident. Find the killer, Mr. Gunn, he said to Pete, as he exits the room. Billy knows Ned didn't like her, but Ned couldn't kill anyone. Pete says that is a well-known fallacy. Jacoby is woken on his office couch by Pete, questions Jacoby about the case of the Caroline accidental death. Six stories up, a man walking his dog below at the time of death, so far qualifies it as accidental, as the man did not see anyone rappelling down the outside. Pete, at the club, is looking at the body-diagram near the piano from above near the broken skylight, he surveys the six stories above ground, the ledges of the same rooftop, Jacoby comes up to see what Pete is doing. Pete states the body falling would likely land on the piano, not nine feet away where the diagram is, unless she was pushed. The person pushing her could have escaped to the next building by jumping over to the adjacent building. Pete exists, a stranger emerges near the staircase, out of sight from Pete. At the library, Pete looks at a newspaper showing a picture of Arnet and Willows, Willows is a former member of the Flying Willows, famous acrobats and aerialists, the caption reads. Willows is at the library seeing the captioned picture Pete was reading. Pete calls Jacoby from the library telling him about the picture he saw from an article from six years ago of Arnet and Willows as Willows is eavesdropping nearby. Pete exits the library, heading to his car, a pick falls from a scaffold above, followed by a load of bricks, with Jason running up the scaffolding. Pete confronts him, he runs up higher claiming she was a two-timer, taking Billy, he saw her for what she was, no good. Jason grabs a rope he thinks is secure, as the rope comes loose, but falls to his death. Pete tells Billy what happened and why, Pete exits, leaving Billy to himself in his den.
