Rock and roll sensation Elvis Presley was drafted into the United States Army in 1958. He served as an ordinary soldier and was not assigned to an Army entertainment unit. He was discharged in 1960 with the rank of sergeant. This service was the basis of this episode.
This episode was inspired by Elvis Presley's widely-publicized induction into the US Army. The actor portraying Elvin [Tom Gilson], at 6'-4" towers over the rest of the cast. In reality, Phil Silvers, at 6'-1", was an inch taller than Elvis Presley, at 6'-0".
