- Number Two believes that Number Six resigned because he was going to sell out. Using dream manipulation, Number Two tries to determine which one of three possible candidates Number Six was dealing with.
- A new Number Two, anxious to find out why the Prisoner resigned, uses a 'Special Machine' to infiltrate and order Number Six's dreams, introducing, over a period of three nights, three separate characters to determine which one he was working with. - Number 2 is convinced that Number 6 was going over to the other side and wants to know who his contact was going to be and what information he was going to provide. Using a new technique developed by Number 14, Number 6 is put into a drug induced sleep where his dreams can be monitored. They provide a framework for the dream in the form of a party hosted by Madame Engadine. There, Number 6 meets the first of three possible contacts, a former agent who defected some six years before and who is simply labeled as A. Number 2 has two other possible candidates, B and C, but must allow Number 6 at least 24 hours between dream sessions. Number 6 is soon onto what they are doing and decides to send a message of his own.—garykmcd
