Enjoyable, though the main character, Nobby, is an idiot.

Reed Hadley starred in the successful but short-lived series, "Racket Squad". Shortly after it was canceled, he returned with another show that looked and sounded almost like "Racket Squad" but with a few minor changes. "Public Defender" had a similar introduction and Hadley's playing the lawyer, Bart Matthews, was almost like a clone of his Captain Braddock on the previous show. Fortunately, since I really like "Racket Squad", watching most of the episodes of "Public Defender" is also very pleasant.

Charles Bronson stars in this installment. He plays Nobby--a boxer who is definitely short on brains! It begins with Nobby calling Bart Matthews (Hadley) and telling him that he probation and wants to turn himself in to the authorities, as he's tired of living on the run. What happens next is interesting and illustrates that perhaps Nobby took one blow too many to his skull, as he shows some seriously impaired reasoning. But, thanks to Matthews, everyone is happy and life is good. Thanks Bart, for being a real stand-up guy!

While I'll admit that this isn't one of the best episodes in the series, it was enjoyable and kept my interest.

Warning: Spoilers
***SPOILERS*** Charles Bronson is the punch drunk and brain damaged boxer Nobby Bullaid who broke his parole by leaving town to get a number of bouts in the sticks to make himself a few measly dollars. It's Nobby's former public defender Bart Matthews, Reed Hadley, who gets a call from Nobby wanting to turn himself in before the police get a hold of him that may well lead to him, in his confusing mental state, getting shot and killed by them resisting arrest.

With everything ready to get Nobby to turn himself into Matthews he gets cold feet when he just happens to sees him conversing with Sgt. Angel,Kenneth Tobey, at the bus station he's to give himself up and freaks out of his skull. Nobby is also under pressure from hoodlum Jake South, Frankie Darro, who want's to use Nobby as one of his enforcers and has been blackmailing him while he's been on the lamb at Roxie's, Jack Kruschen, skid row hotel where he's been old up in.

***SPOILERS***Nobby in a state of panic then makes a run for it from the police as well as Jake's goons kidnapping and car jacking Mr. & Mrs Praks, Jen Shepard & George N.Neise, thus getting himself in deeper trouble then he already was in. Despite Matthews doing his best to get Nobby to turn himself in he decides to shoot it out with the police getting severely wounded in the crossfire. Still Nobby while suffering from some dozen bullet wounds ended up alive and luckily for him, with Matthews standing by him in court, ended up with only six months in the slammer and two years probation. For what he could have gotten him, just on the kidnapping conviction alone, a one way trip to the San Quentin gas chamber.
