- Penelope 'Punky' Brewster: Henry, you're my friend, will you answer me something?
- Henry Warnimont: Sure.
- Penelope 'Punky' Brewster: Why doesn't anyone want me? What's wrong with me?
- Henry Warnimont: Nothing's wrong with you.
- Penelope 'Punky' Brewster: But you don't want me. Neither did my mom. That's why she ditched me.
- Henry Warnimont: Punky, you yourself said she forgot.
- Penelope 'Punky' Brewster: It's been a long time. She should have remembered by now unless... she didn't want to remember.
- Henry Warnimont: I've never raised a child before.
- Penelope 'Punky' Brewster: So? Neither have I. We'll figure it out together.
- Henry Warnimont: [to Randi] I don't understand. Why can't I be Punky's foster parent? Give me one good reason.
- Miranda 'Randi' Mitchell: You've never raised a child, you're not married and you're too old!
- Henry Warnimont: I only asked for one!
- Henry Warnimont: Listen, Punky. I think you're a wonderful, extraordinary little girl. And I only want what's best for you. That's why I think you'd be better off with younger, more experienced parents.
- [Punky's face falls and she puts her head down]
- Henry Warnimont: You do understand, don't you?
- Penelope 'Punky' Brewster: Yeah, I understand. You don't want me.
- Judge William J. Murphy: [about Punky] I am hereby ordering that the child be returned to Fenster Hall until an adequate home can be found for her.
- [long silence; everyone looks upset]
- Miranda 'Randi' Mitchell: Your Honor, I respectfully request that you take back your judgment.
- Judge William J. Murphy: Take back my judgment? But nobody takes back their judgment, not even umpires!
