Good all round

Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the best episodes of the entire early sixties lineup of "Rawhide" episodes. The standouts for me are Ken Lynch and Audrey Totter as a middle-aged pair down on their luck -- who find each other. One reservation is that Clint Eastwood as Rowdy Yates is looking far too mature at 32 to be still the immature, impulsive apprentice -- who spends most of the episode trying to evade trail boss Gil Favor (Eric Fleming) and the sheriff and escape the smallpox quarantine to put the townsfolk in jeopardy. Bing Russell -- Kurt Russell's dad -- is good playing a real slimeball and deserved a lot more than Rowdy's punch at the end.

Quarantine
bkoganbing5 September 2020
It's theend of the drive and the drovers are in Abilene. They're all paid off and looking to spend some loot. But one of them gets sick and it's thought he has smallpox. The men are quarantined at Audrey Totter's saloon/hotel.

There are several storylines through this episode. One is Eric Fleming's rush to get out of town to purchase some land for a spread of his own. fleming will lose his option already put down if he doesn't make the deal within four days Another is Ken Lynch. old and injured who wants to go back to Texas ab open a mercantile.

The drovers are restless and as Clint Eastwood points out, the drive is over and Fleming ain't the trail boss any more.

Nice conclusion to Season 4.
