If you can imagine a Scarlett O'Hara/Julie Marsden type of southern belle who the post war fortunes have made a Poker Alice type of gambling queen than you have the character that Dina Merrill portrays in this Rawhide story.
She also has some before the Civil War history with Rowdy Yates and I get the feeling Rowdy got singed a bit, but pulled out before he got really burned. He's not as happy to see her as the others with which she just works the old charm. The rest are all happy to have found this gorgeous blond on the trail even though she's looking all done in.
Good reason she was out there, she's fleeing from a citizen's committee posse because she shot and killed the sheriff from the nearest town. But she gives the drovers a real tall tale.
Some of Vivien Leigh, some of Bette Davis went into the role Merrill portrays. Even with things closing in she still works the old charm and lies. Nicely done too.
