This is a creepy one

Warning: Spoilers
I'm guessing Eastwood liked this episode and title so much he reused the name Pale Rider years later in his own movie. This episode really makes you think and keeps you wondering. The Twilight Zone visits Rawhide. The walking dead. Who will be the next victim? A stranger, JD (on his belt buckle)trys to rob Rowdy, but is startled and Rowdy shoots and kills him, and then puts him in a grave. Then a man who is the spittin' image of JD hires on to the cattle drive, and evil surrounds the crew, or is it all a coincidence? Favor thinks Rowdy is a nut, and Rowdy and Hey Soos are sure it's the work of the devil. The man calls himself Rivers (something you need to cross), is full of mystery and quite likes to taunt Rowdy. Will the men be able to exorcise the evil spirits, or will they all burn in Hell?

This was about the spookiest episode of Rawhide ever!

Made even creepier by the performance of Albert Salmi as the mysterious stranger who looks just like the guy Rowdy killed in town to start the episode. Of course, Salmi was a pretty creepy dude in real life, too. On April 22, 1990, he murdered his estranged wife at their home on Spokane and later committed suicide. All in all, a guy I wouldn't want to have much at all to do with!

Dual creeps
bkoganbing12 July 2020
Albert Salmi who played many a degenerate character is at his creepiest in both parts of a dual performance in tis Rawhide story.

Clint Eastwood kills one Salmi when Salmi tres to rob him. Then when he returns to the erd after buying supplies he finds Eric Fleming has taken on ather character played by Abert Salmi. And this second Salmi keeps trying to bait Clint Eastwood into a fight.

The amswer is rather obvious still theperformances of Albert Salmi in noyj roles guaranteed to vreep you out. Almost gothic.
