- Jim Quince: Do you want me to mark the day
- [19 May 1872]
- Jim Quince: off the calendar for you, Wish?
- Wishbone: No, it's my calendar and that job was entrusted to me. There. Too many cooks spoil the broth.
- Jim Quince: You're right. Sometimes one's too many.
- Lash Whitcomb: I ain't riding him, Mr Yates. He's one of the best drovers you got to guide a spooky herd. In case you don't remember, Mr Yates, this is Indian country. Simon used to be a buffalo soldier and I'd rather have him on guard watching for Indians, all worn out than any of your other drovers as fresh as an unwritten book. Does that satify you, Mr Yates?
- Rowdy Yates: It's not my idea to work a drover to death.
- Lash Whitcomb: Then who's on guard?
- Rowdy Yates: We are, Whitcomb. You and me.
- Lash Whitcomb: Just put the fear of lead poisoning into them
- [the Arapaho visitors]
- Lash Whitcomb: . I know their kind, they'll steal you blind.
- Ian Cabot: I'd just like to see if that Declaration of Independence you people fussed over has really done you any good.
- Sheriff John Keeley: I'll put you on five thousand dollar bond.
- Rowdy Yates: I don't have five thousand. I don't have five hundred. I wouldn't pay you five cents and I have that much.
- Rowdy Yates: There's your fang carpenter.
- Simon Blake: You know, pain's gone.
- Rowdy Yates: Same thing always happens to me.
