A really sparkling pilot episode of this show.

I liked all the witty interactions between the characters, and although it probably wouldn't get past the PC police these days, there is still a lot to like.

It is credit to the writers also that they were able to introduce such a large amount of characters quickly, and make us like them.

If 'Scrubs' is the funny version of 'ER' then 'Spin City' is a funny version of 'The West Wing' set at local level.

I enjoyed this pilot.

An introduction for viewers.

In this pilot episode it is easy to see, for regular viewers, how the characters have developed over the long run of the series and the episode is an entertaining watch to start the trip for the regular cast. But if you are watching this episode as your first introduction to the series then you may have reservations about in which direction the series is taken. But all new series need an introduction for the viewers and the cast. Since there are so many members of the cast, it is easy to be confused, for a novice, to actually know the doings of each person in the script. And this episode only provides a small look into what will become a fine and friendly show.

There is really not much to the script as we find out that the mayors assistant, Mike Flaherty (Micheal J Fox), is actually the one that makes the Mayor of New York office run with perfection. However a crisis comes up when the Mayor (Barry Bostick) insults the gay community. Mike has to find a way to make it look as if the Mayor's office is more friendly to minority needs. In so doing, he will hire a gay man, Carter Haywood, to make his office more acceptable to the needs of the gay community. But it appears that Haywood is not going to make the Mayor's life a simple task.

As with any pilot series, the main idea is to deal with viewers watching to know the cast members. And with that said, the episode has done its part to make the introduction smooth for the viewers. This is not an excellent show with a worthy plot but is just a new show trying to attract viewers. Just an average show that is need of another watch as we now know which path the series is taking.
