Lottie, Hawksworth and co are planning on making a film on young mothers inside an exclusive maternity unit, however it is cover for an investigation into murder, and strange goings on at The pricey establishment.
Very much back on track, after the very poor Hafiz Affair, that was dire, Life at a price however is a very enjoyable piece of seventies mystery drama. It's an interesting, good old fashioned swizz, taking financial advantage of young mothers, it's definitely a well crafted mystery.
I am still struggling to see how this was made as late as 1972, it genuinely looks and feels like something from the early 1960's.
Cyril Shaps is good value as Doctor Hatchington, plenty of Charisma, and an unmistakeable voice. Ainley, wonderful as always, I think you can see how enjoyed playing this part.
Interesting to note that writer Richard Harris penned and dramatised some good TV dramas, episodes of Shoestring, Murder most English and Sherlock Holmes, perhaps most notably The Last Detective, which started Peter Davison as the hapless Dangerous Davies.
7/10.
