On Ghemor, Lawrence Pressman commented "My original image of Ghemor was one of the old military elite in Germany, who loathed Hitler. They were certainly willing to fight the war, but they were unwilling to fight according to Hitler's plans. They were the guys who tried to kill him in the forest, including Rommel who was implicated in that action".
One of the Weyouns reveal that the Vorta are immune to poisons, which is why they terminate themselves by activating an implant.
This episode marked the first obvious appearance of the Jem'Hadar battle cruiser. In the episodes In Purgatory's Shadow (1997) and By Inferno's Light (1997) the battle cruiser is seen flying through space but is never mentioned.
Second appearance of Lawrence Pressman as Ghemor, the leader of the Cardasian dissident movement. His third and final appearance in Deep Space Nine. The previous two being: Second Skin (1994) (As Ghemor) and The Adversary (1995) (As Krajensky).
This episode is a sequel of sorts to the third season episode Second Skin (1994) and is the first episode to feature Dukat since Cardassia joined the Dominion. It clarifies some of the political maneuvering which has taken place on Cardassia since By Inferno's Light (1997).
