- After an accident aboard the Enterprise leaves one of its children in grave danger, Data commandeers the Enterprise, driven to take the ship to an unknown origin, where an interesting figure awaits.
- En route to the medical facility at Starbase 416 to obtain urgent treatment for a child who's been injured, Lt. Commander Data inexplicably hijacks the Enterprise. He transports himself to a planet and finds his creator, Dr. Noonien Soong, alive and well. Data has no recollection of events prior to arriving on the planet. The elderly doctor has activated a homing device in Data as a way of bringing him home. They are both surprised however when Data's brother, Lore, also appears. The Doctor had no idea Lore had been reactivated and the homing signal intended only for Data obviously called Lore home as well. The doctor tells them that he is dying but that doesn't stop the brothers from bickering. The reason the doctor called Data home was to provide him with a new chip to give him emotions. Lore has his own plans however.—garykmcd
- The Enterprise is on route to the medical facility at Star base 416 to obtain urgent treatment for a child who's been injured. 2 brothers Willie (Adam Ryen) and Jake Potts (Cory Danziger) were playing laser tag and Jake made Willie believe that Willie shot him with a real laser gun. Willie got very upset and intentionally ate the fruit of a Cove Palm, which is extremely infectious. Now Willie requires medical attention on star base 416.
Lt. Commander Data inexplicably hijacks the Enterprise. He increases speed to warp 9.3 and sets a course to an unknown destination. To avoid questions, he terminates life support systems on the bridge, which forces everyone to evacuate, except himself. Data locks out everybody out from the bridge and takes full control of the ship. He has blocked all physical entrances to the main bridge so nobody can access it. Picard tries to separate the saucer section from Engineering, but Data simulates Picard's voice to the computer and aborts the same. The saucer section had the main bridge and if it was separated, it would drop out of warp. Data transports himself to a planet, by bypassing all security that Picard and Riker can throw at him, and finds his creator, Dr. Noonien Soong (Brent Spiner), alive and well. Meanwhile Willie is in quarantine in sick bay, but he risks the entire ship with infection if he is not relocated to a star base with haste.
Data has no recollection of events prior to arriving on the planet. Soong touches 3 points on data to kind of reset him, after which Data is a bit like "himself". The elderly doctor has activated a homing device in Data as a way of bringing him home. Meanwhile Picard is able to get back onto the bridge, but Data has locked all commands with his personal override codes. Picard can't move the ship without him. Also, Soong has disabled his communicator, so Enterprise can't get in touch with Data, or the other way around. Data is surprised that Soong survived the colony blast, which was supposed to have killed him. Soong says he always had an escape plan Data tells Dr Soong that he joined Starfleet since it was Starfleet officers who saved him. Soong engages Data in a conversation and realizes that Data has learned a lot more about human psyche. He understands why humans yearn for the past, while procreating to propel their lineage into the future.
They are both surprised however when Data's brother, Lore (Brent Spiner), also appears. The Doctor had no idea Lore had been reactivated and the homing signal intended only for Data obviously called Lore home as well. Data is not happy as Lore had collaborated with the crystal entity and killed all inhabitants of the colony, to gain favor from the entity. Meanwhile Willie has 36 hrs tops before he dies.
The doctor tells them that he is dying but that doesn't stop the brothers from bickering. Lore is angry that Soong disassembled him on the colony and left him for dead. Soong says Lore was the first and was unstable. Colonists were afraid of him. Lore is also angry that instead of fixing him, Soong created Data.
The reason the doctor called Data home was to provide him with a new chip to give him emotions. Lore has his own plans, however. He impersonates Data, and Soong ends up inserting the emotion chip in him, instead of Data. Lore injures Soong and escapes. Meanwhile Picard sends an away party of Riker, Geordi, and Worf to locate Data as they can't move the ship without him. Riker finds Data and activates him, while Soong dies. Before dying Soong tells Data how to remove his memory block. Data returns to the Enterprise and activates all controls. The ship reaches star base 416 and Willie survives.
