The Clone
claudio_carvalho23 April 2015
Colonel O'Neil, Sam, Daniel and Teal'c are researching broken crystals in another planet. O'Neil is injured by a crystal and faints; a clone replaces him and returns to Earth with the SG-1 leaving O'Neul unconscious on the surface of the planet. Then he goes to Sara's home to seek out his son Charlie, who died in an accident. Meanwhile O'Neil awakes and returns to the base. Now he has to prove to the Stargate Command (SGC) that he is Colonel Jack O'Neil and discovers the true intention of his clone.

"Cold Lazarus" is a touching episode of "Stargate SG-1", with a very well written story. The plot has many twists and the encounter of Jack and Sara is heartbreaking but never corny. My vote is eight.

Great Episode
georgesepiclife31 March 2017
"Cold Lazarus" is proof that Stargate SG-1 is a great show, because this episode proved that the writers of the show are ambitious, and aren't aiming for boring, predictable sci-fi that has been done in countless shows and films before. This episode is very personal, and focuses on the O'Neill's backstory, but it does it in a way that is interesting and original. There are a lot of emotional scenes, which work well along with the exciting stuff that is going on at the base. Richard Dean Anderson gives a great performance(s!), and I really felt for his character. Although this episode is pretty self-contained, it still advances the over-arching story line with the Goa'uld and develops them. There are some humorous scenes with O'Neill, which worked very well. I didn't really like the use of comedy in "Children of the Gods", but it has improved significantly since then, with a nice balance of drama, action, sci-fi, and comedy. I'm looking forward to the next episode.

this episode goes back to Jack's earlier life
trashgang26 March 2013
This episode moves back to the first Stargate (1994) where we were told that Jack's son was killed by accident by playing with his gun at home. The stargate team is on another planet when Jack is unintentionally injured by a crystal alien. The alien takes the form of Jack's body and rejoins the team and moves via the stargate back to earth. It's there that the false Jack moves back to Sara, his ex wife. Not knowing what is going on Sara and Jack bring back memories.

Of course when the 'real' Jack returns to earth they know something is going on, who's real and who's fake?

This is in fact not really a story about the aliens itself but is more about the early life of Jack. It goes a bit deeper into his history. For some this will be another stupid entry into Stargate but I could take it because we know a bit more about Jack. It's also the first time that Teal'c is going into the real world. Just look how they solve the problem with his gun and the mark on his head.

Not bad at all for those wanting to go deeper into Jack's story.

Perhaps I'm being too generous...

I suppose, I should be a little more critical. But any show or movie that has me crying for nearly half the runtime (intentionally), deserves high praise. This is a beautiful, emotional story. With a few tweaks the bulk of this story could have even been a feature film. It's very rich. The look into Jack's tragic past was very special and Powerful. And I'm a sucker for sci-fi stories with positive emotional outcomes, where some alien entity helps someone overcome some sort of trauma. Which is a more common thing in sci-fi than you would think; see: The movie Arrival, Mission to Mars, the Outer Limits episode: The Conversion and many more.

One of my favorite episodes
Psilio26 February 2015
This episode starts out quite slow, but it evolves immensely, at least in my opinion.

The SG-1 team is visiting a planet where they at first sight find nothing but radiation and some strange crystals.

Upon taking some of the crystals back for analysis on Earth, they discover something extraordinary.

This is a very well written sci-fi story, in my opinion. This is why I watch, read and like sci-fi.

Speculation on how other lifeforms besides the ones we so far know of on our planet has always fascinated me, and I think this example is a very good one of what might be out there.

Kind of sweet

I kept waiting for this one to turn bad, but it never did, which I loved. The storyline was personal and went a long way to develop the characters. Decent acting.

Backstory with feeling
jeneroo2 December 2018
This episode brought me to tears. Not going to spoil it but let's just say you get some backstory on Jack and Anderson does a great job. It's a simple story but one that the writers should be proud of-good out of the box sci-fi story telling with depth.

Unexpected emotional punch
OldMovieRob1 February 2024
I'm late to the Stargate SG-1 party and just recently started this series for the first time (with ads now, thanks Amazon) and was not expecting the emotional gut punch of this episode. U[ until now, the episodes have been mostly Star Trek-flavor with the crew discovering strange new stargate worlds (albeit ones that all look like Vancouver) but this episode took me off guard, as the episode digs into the tragedy of Jack's past and the loss of his son. I don't want to give too much away in terms of spoilers but I was really impressed with how the writers decided to tackle this topic, in this case, a doppelganger revisiting Jack's home and the scene of the death of his child. There was a lot to this episode and it's a difficult one to get through to be honest. No dangerous, evil enemies or destructive countdowns but instead a thoughtful exploration of the themes of loss and grief and moving on. Highly recommended.

A sad plot
CursedChico6 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A sad plot.

We dive into jack's life, past regrets. It was sad scenes.

That creature, energy thing did not die hopefully.

But what about the crystals they brought to the earth? jack and energy thing did not take it back. They sent it there when they were at hospital? They cant risk to hold in in earth. And they cant captivate beings. They have ethics.
