I'm a Soooul Man: Da Dat Dat Da Dadat Dat Daaaa
kapelusznik1811 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
****SPOILERS**** After sitting on his behind and pushing pencils Inspt. James Martin, David Soul, gets his chance to work the streets with the legendary Det. Let. Mike Stone, Karl Malden, who's partner Inspt. Steve Keller, Michael Douglas, has taken a long needed vacation. On his first case the murder robbery of a produce manager Martin show his true colors and prejudices handling those Hispanics workers there suspected of murdering him. It later comes out that the very blond and waspish looking James Martin is actually Hispanic himself the former Manny Martinez who changed his name and appearance by dying his hair blond. That in Martin not to be mistaken for one whom as it turns out, in dealing with his fellow Hispanics back in the barrio, developed a passionated and murderous hatred for his fellow Hispanics! This doesn't help in finding the killer Rafeal Diez, Al Martinez, of the produce manager with Martin screwing things up while trying to arrest him in working him over instead of reading him his rights! That not only has the ,wearing his Air Jordan's, Diez escape but cause the perusing Det. Let. Stone to fracture his ankle in the process of trying to catch him.

It becomes obvious that Inspt. Martin is a loose cannon and is taken off the case before he ends up killing somebody so he goes solo, without official permission, to get the job of catching elusive Diez on his very own. The final showdown accrues at a Catholic Church that the fugitive Diez's sister Juanita, Priscilla Garcia, attends. Pirscilla was told by phone by Martin, using the assumed name of Diez's crime partner Compos, he'll meet him there with the money the two ripped off the murdered produce manager!

****SPOILERS**** With no respect for the church, a place of God, both Martin & Diez shoot it out with Diez out of bullets and cornered like a rat getting the worst of the exchange. Just when Inspt. Martin was about to, by letting the unarmed Diez make a run for it, blow him away in pops or better yet hoops, on cultures, Det. Let.Stone and his partner Inspt. Keller to stop the carnage. Telling Martin that it's the wrong thing to do in gunning down the helpless Diez Let. Det. Stone finally get him to do the right thing in reading Diez his rights and peacefully, without any violence, arresting him!

P.S David Soul was so good in his role as a rouge member of the SFPD that he was soon given a major part in the upcoming Clint Eastwood "Dirty Harry" movie, also filmed in San Francisco, "Magnum Force" playing the same kind of unhinged and shoot first and ask questions later policeman.

Worst Casting Blunder in the history of Television!
FloridaFred26 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT:

David Soul (birth name David Solberg) is playing the part of a Chicano / Mexican? Qué es esto? Por favor!

Casting really blew it. If they wanted the character "Inspector Martin" to be a "secret Mexican", why did casting choose an actor who has lily white skin? No, no, no. This poor choice of a featured guest star ruins what could have been a decent episode of "Streets of San Francisco".

The show starts out a bit lame, with the helpless little old lady scene. But it picks up quickly as Stone and Martin arrive at the Mexican produce market to investigate the murder.

Some interesting highlights include a Stevie Ray Vaughan impersonator as a tow truck driver, and a shoot-out inside a Catholic church.

But that casting error regarding David Soul... sorry, this just does not work. It's embarassing to watch otherwise great actor David Soul lower himself to this. I rate"Hall of Mirrors" 5 stars.

David Soul being cast as this?

Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER ALERT........ This was the WORST miscasting of a character I have ever seen in all my time watching TV. A guy with rosy cheeks, blonde eyebrows, blonde hair, blonde fuzzy facial hair playing a guy whose parents were both Hispanic? The guy couldn't be more Aryan. There were so many places in the plot they could have accounted for this (making one of the parents Caucasian for example) but they chose to make his character full blooded Hispanic. It ruined this episode for me. It became completely unbelievable after that. Normally, I love Streets. Great acting and writing but this episode was far too improbable to suspend my disbelief.

Well watchable.

Warning: Spoilers
David Soul, before Magnum Force and Starsky and Hutch has a secret. The promising detective has a secret, which effects a murder investigation. The veteran gets injured, and Keller must deal with a case and the rookie detectives personal problems. There is a bit of a tough edge for Hall of Mirrors, but the ending is a 70's formulated all lose end tie up lose ends conclusion. Kind of week. 4 stars.
