Like in every short of the miniseries,Claude Chabrol presents,à la Hitchcock ,the subject.

Here he is a cook in a high school and he's moaning about the bad food the students are served, cursing everyone from Jules Ferry to Charlemagne .When he returns,we will see him savoring a lovely chocolate pastry, then gloriously holding panties he stole from the culprit's collection (better than stamps, isn't it?);CC was the greatest gourmet of the French cinema.

As for the story ,it is one of the poorest of the miniseries ;after a promising start ,the short drags on,particularly in a static overlong last scene in which the director (Michel Leroy) wants to make sure the viewer has understood .

A young supervisor works in a high school and he's got a superb -but dirty- motorcycle:(isn't he a bit over-familiar with the students ,particularly the girls? the headmaster complains.

He takes Zoe for a ride in the country and they make love in a shed, where a tramp plays the occasional peeping tom;when they want to come back, breakdown! So Zoe has to hitchhike to come back ;she's raped and in a coma and the young supervisor is a suspect.

The rest is almost worthless:the murder in the hospital has been seen at least a hundred times by the average viewer;and the "solution" is so far -fetched that one regret the whole thing was not treated as a black comedy ,like the highly superior "Mise A l'Index" .
