- After two villains steal artifacts from a church and kill a priest (a friend of Grief), Grief sets off to avenge his death. Mauriti offers his help - he is taking his reluctant teenage nephew, Atara, a boy to whom he is like a father - into the deep jungle to begin his training as a warrior with a tribal elder as a warrior. The murderers kidnap Atara and use him to flee. Atara uses his newfound native skills to help our heroes capture the culprits. Meanwhile, back in Matavai, Clare Devon, a proper young woman from Essex, arrives unexpectedly. She has bravely traveled this great distance by herself to meet the author of poetic love letters she has been receiving for some time. Unfortunately, her would-be true love, the man with whom she hoped to build a life, turns out to be Cannibal Jack, the town drunk. Having spent every dime she had to get to Tahiti and having much to prove to the naysayers back home, she decides to stay. In exchange for room and board, she begins to work for Lavinia as a waitress in the bar - but we know that this industrious woman won't wait tables for long.—Anonymous
