- Ann, Donald, Judy and Leon attend an auction, where Ann pays $7.50 for a box without knowing what's inside. Although Donald thinks it's merely a box of junk, a man who introduces himself as Mr. Johnson asks if he can buy it from Ann. This only convinces Ann and Judy that something in the box must be more than just junk. After showing up at her apartment and offering her $30 for a baseball from the box, Ann and her friends become suspicious of Mr. Johnson.—A Girl
- While attending an estate auction, Ann impulsively buys a box whose contents are unknown for $7.50. Immediately following, a Mr. Johnson, who wasn't present during the box's auctioning, wants to buy the box from Ann for much more than she paid for it. At first, Ann contemplates selling for the $30 offered, but then thinks twice when he ups the offer to $50, she thinking that there must be something extremely valuable in the box that he is not disclosing. After looking through the box's contents - all which on the surface looks only to be worthless knick-knacks - Ann believes what Mr. Johnson is after, and will go to extreme lengths to obtain, is a baseball mounted on a stand. Ann herself goes to some lengths to determine if there is anything special about the baseball itself. But when Judy sees a photograph of Mr. Johnson in an old newspaper, Ann thinks she may be in danger as she believes Mr. Johnson is really "Mr. X", a known enemy spy.—Huggo
- Ann Marie buys a box of junk at an auction for $7.50. A man, named Mr. Johnson offers her $50 for the box of junk. Ann refuses his offer.
After getting home from the auction, Ann, Donald and Judy start opening and inspecting the box of junk. Mr. Johnson shows up and offers to buy the box of junk again. He lets it slip that he is interested in the baseball, but didn't explain why. A neighbor knocks on the door and states that her son has locked himself in the bathroom. The whole group go to the neighbor's apartment and Mr. Johnson slides a newspaper under the door and pushes the door key from the outside onto the newspaper with a hanger. He pulls the newspaper out and the key is on the paper.
Ann and Donald go out to dinner and when they return, Ann notices that the baseball is missing. She believes Mr. Johnson has stolen the baseball. Ann calls the police and a police officer comes to the apartment. While Ann is explaining what happened, The neighbor knocks on the door and brings her baseball. Ann left the baseball in the neighbor's apartment when the boy locked himself in the bathroom.
Judy arrives at Ann's apartment with a magazine showing Mr. Johnson in a photo with FBI agents and a mysterious Mr. X. Ann believes Mr. Johnson is really Mr. X who was arrested by the FBI. The magazine article is 2 months old and the Mr. X should have been in jail.
Donald and Ann decide to take the baseball to a physician they know to have the baseball X-Rayed. The doctor examines the baseball, and determines that a name on the ball states White House.
In the next scene, Mr. Johnson shows up at the apartment, and Mr. Johnson decides to tell them the truth. He has his jacket open displaying a gun. Don and Marie get scared, an try to leave the apartment. At this point Don and Ann think Mr. Johnson is Mr X. A minute later Mr. Johnson explains that he was a professional baseball player and this baseball was his only Major League Home Run. The signature on the ball is Willie Hutton, the pitcher from whom Mr. Johnson hit the home run. Mr. Johnson is an assumed name as if Ann knew who he was, she would try to get a lot of money for the baseball. Ann gives the ball to Charlie (Chuck), Mr. Johnson's real name.
