The National Recovery Administration (NRA) Blue Eagle logo is very prominently displayed in the centre of a bulletin board otherwise full of wanted posters in the Twin Peaks Sheriff's building. This administration was setup by FDR to foster cooperation between the government, industry and citizens during the Great Depression. It was discontinued in 1935. The logo frequently appears at the end of films of the Era along with the NRA slogan "We do our part."
First episode not to credit or feature Sheryl Lee. Lee also becomes the first and only member of the supporting cast to be written out.
The RCMP officer is named Preston King, a reference to Challenge Of The Yukon (later renamed Sgt. Preston of the Yukon), a long running radio adventure series. The main character Sgt. Preston had a husky dog named King.
When Twin Peaks was rerun on the Bravo cable network in 1993, David Lynch wrote new introductions for each episode that were performed by Catherine Coulson as The Log Lady. The one for this episode was thus:
"Complications set in--yes, complications. How many times have we heard: 'it's simple'. Nothing is simple. We live in a world where nothing is simple. Each day, just when we think we have a handle on things, suddenly some new element is introduced and everything is complicated once again.
What is the secret? What is the secret to simplicity, to the pure and simple life? Are our appetites, our desires undermining us? Is the cart in front of the horse?"

Gavan O'Herlihy appears in this episode and Checkmate (1991) as RCMP Officer Preston King. His father, Dan O'Herlihy, appears in several later episodes as an unrelated character.
