I normally avoid films or tv episodes that include james whitmore in the cast but in this episode of "the virginian" it was clear from the onset that greer garson was going to be the focus of attention and save tramas from being tried and hanged as a murderer ... she was a delight to watch

Warning: Spoilers
Trampas is nodding along on his horse when he is rudely awoken by rifle fire. Marshall Krug and his deputy arrest Trampas and take him to town to face court for murder of a man whom he had been seen with earlier.
As Trampas has no representation the court appoints a local lawyer who is unable to take the case so he handballs it on to a female partner.
This new development bemuses Trampas and he puts his foot in it by stating he does not support voting for women! However the change in lawyers is the best thing that could happen for Trampas as she is a stickler for procedure and this saves Trampas from the usual rush to the noose the town is used to.

Lady Lawyer

Poor Doug McClure after quarreling with a man who settled a poker debt with the deed to a worthless mine he leaves the town he's riding through only to held up and arrested by Deputy Kenneth Tobey on a murder charge, of killing the same fellow he quarreled with. They've got an ear witness in the man's daughter Pamela McMyler who heard the quarrel.
Justice is usually swift and expeditious but here McClure the chauvinist he is gets a lady lawyer in Greer Garson who believes in things like reasonable doubt and due process. With territorial marshal James Whitmore they come to the truth of things.
This Virginian episode besides these cast members got a real distinguished ensemble with E.G. Marshall as the Judge and Jay Robinson as the prosecuting attorney. Marshall brings his small screen background to the role as judge, he was for years star of the Defenders and Robinson is a real lizard of a prosecutor.
Garson and Whitmore get a bit of a senior citizen romance thing going as well. Looks like this was a pilot for a projected TV series. Also looks like it could have been a fun series as well.
