The Virginian regulars take a back seat to the guest cast as the Medicine Bow
ranchers are about to go to war with a group of loggers who are going to cut
too much timber and not leave any to prevent floods.
The president of the timber company Arch Johnson is a hardheaded ype who is not a big believer in conservation. His foreman William Smith is cut from the same cloth and he's courting Johnson's daughter Joan Freeman. But she has eyes for young rancher Martin Milner.
It's a Romeo and Juliet type story set in the background of 19th century Wyoming. The only cast regular to get appreciable screen time is Clu Gulaget who as Deputy Sheriff Emmet Ryker strives mightily to keep the peace.
It works out a bit better for these folks than the Montagues and Capulets.
