OK . . . So

Warning: Spoilers
If Major Adams wasn't marrying the girl because he was still in love with Reiny, who passed away some years earlier, why did he leave the wagon train? He was only supposed to be leaving the wagon train because he was staying with Beth Pearson and her son because he loved her so very, very much. So I was shocked that this was the last episode with Major Seth Adams. However, I really enjoyed the episode and liked the fact that the Major got a chance to fall in love and reflect on the one true love of his life. I give this a solid 9/10

Voiceover

Warning: Spoilers
Major Adams didn't narrate part of the monologue himself, doesn't sound like his voice. Doesn't matter, Ward Bond was great in Wagon Train. It wasn't quite as good after he was gone,, too soon. He seemed like a heck of a man.

Rated a 10 as this was Ward Bond's final appearance

I always enjoyed watching Ward Bond perform. He was one of a kind amongst the Hollywood crowd. He typically portrayed the grizzly type only to retreat to a cuddly teddy bear. He was a key actor in a number of successful films and never missed a step. And he was the perfect Wagon Master in both the movie and the TV series. He was also the best of friends with John Wayne, and performed alongside The Duke in 23 different movies.. quite the resume'. But an untimely heart attack took him from us way too soon. He will always be a personal favorite, hence I rate this episode a farewell 10 to Ward Bond.

A romantic lead
bkoganbing2 August 2014
Probably poetically Ward Bond's final appearance on Wagon Train contained a flashback to a pair of episodes The Major Adams Story parts one and two, where we meet the love of his life Virginia Grey as Rainie Webster. So it was a bit of a shock when Virginia Grey shows up again with a grown son Johnny Washbrook wanting to join the Wagon Train. You see Rainie Webster died of tuberculosis in the previous story.

But her she is again as the widow Beth Pearson and Ward Bond is falling for her all over again. He's ready to sacrifice all for her including giving up command of the Wagon Train to Terry Wilson after a fall in which Grey breaks her neck.

Ward Bond did not usually get the girl in any of his big screen films, so it was nice to see him go out as a romantic lead for once.
