Kitty Allbright : I'd rather walk. Well, there isn't anybody else you could spare?
Bill Hawks : 'Fraid not, Ma'am.
Kitty Allbright : Seems like I have no choice, doesn't it.
Bill Hawks : Looks like it.
Flint McCullough : There's just one thing, Miss Allbright, I haven't said I'd take you.
Kitty Allbright : All right, Mr McCullough, what do you want me to do?
Flint McCullough : You can begin by asking me. Nicely.
Kitty Allbright : Would you please ride with me to Mason Falls, Mr McCullough? I'd be very grateful.
Flint McCullough : And I think it would be nice if you apologised for shooting me.
Kitty Allbright : I'm sorry.
Flint McCullough : You're sorry for what?
Kitty Allbright : I'm sorry I wounded you.
Flint McCullough : You mean you're sorry you only wounded me.
Kitty Allbright : Frankly, Mr McCullough, I'm not sure.
Flint McCullough : I'll get you the horse.
-
Charlie Wooster : What happened, Flint? Somebody after you?
Bill Hawks : The way you're riding, looks like there's trouble behind you.
Flint McCullough : Close behind and the name is Kitty Allbright. Bill Hawks and Charlie Wooster.
Kitty Allbright : The trouble with Mr McCullough is that he's lost his sense of humour, just because I tried to kill him.
Flint McCullough : Miss Allbright is a nurse. She took a potshot at me, I think because she wanted someone to practise on.
-
Flint McCullough : Well, I'm taking you to see Chris Hale. But, as I told you, it's his decision to make, not mine.
Kitty Allbright : That's right, go ahead, hide your head in the sand. Don't make any decisions. You might just have to back them up.
Flint McCullough : I'm not burying my head in the sand. It's not my decision to make. He's the wagon master, I'm not.
Kitty Allbright : And if you were, would you understand what it is I want to do?
Flint McCullough : I haven't made up my mind yet. I can't really make up my mind whether you want to duplicate the humanitarian achievements of Florence Nightingale or more interested in the recognition and notoriety that goes with it.
Kitty Allbright : Then I thank heaven you're not the man I have to deal with.
-
Flint McCullough : Well, you're the first woman whoever tried to shoot me in the back.
Kitty Allbright : I'm sure that won't stop you, go ahead, don't leave any witnesses.
Flint McCullough : You think I did this?
Kitty Allbright : Well, it could've been you.
Flint McCullough : Do you shoot first and ask questions later?
Kitty Allbright : I got knocked unconscious when the stagecoach turned over. When I woke up, I saw that. Not in any mood to ask questions.
Flint McCullough : Not that you asked. But my name is Flint McCullough, I scout for a wagon train that is camped three miles east of here.
[He tends to his wound]
Kitty Allbright : Well, that's nothing to make such a fuss about.
Flint McCullough : I suppose I should like it, it's the first bullet that's nicked me all day.
Kitty Allbright : Men are always the biggest babies about a little scratch.
[He tears his sleeve to make a bandage]
Kitty Allbright : You'd be better off with nothing on it, than to put that dirty thing on it. Hold still, I'll dress it for you properly.
Flint McCullough : Aargh.
[She snatches his makeshift bandage]
Flint McCullough : I've never seen a doctor like you.
Kitty Allbright : I'm not. I'm a registered nurse.
Flint McCullough : What kind of nurse?
Kitty Allbright : A registered nurse. Hold that, hold it. I'm a graduate of the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing.
Flint McCullough : I thought Florence Nightingale was in Europe.
Kitty Allbright : London, I just came from there. There, that'll hold it. Any horses in your Wagon Train?
Flint McCullough : Don't you think that's kind of a stupid question?
Kitty Allbright : Not necessarily. Wagons are sometimes pulled by oxen. I couldn't see myself riding all the way to Mason Falls on a steer. Now if you don't feel you're too wounded to travel, let's bury these poor people.
Flint McCullough : I'll send a detail from the train.
Kitty Allbright : Good, then let's go. I can ride double. Would you please hurry. When the stage doesn't show up at Mason Falls, my parents are liable to worry about me.
Flint McCullough : Why?
Kitty Allbright : Because I'm their only child, and, strange as it may seem to you, they love me.
Flint McCullough : Get behind the saddle.
[He passes up her bags]
Flint McCullough : You didn't tell me your name.
Kitty Allbright : Kitty Allbright.
Flint McCullough : All right, Miss Allbright, put your arms around me.
Kitty Allbright : Why?
Flint McCullough : Because if you don't, you're going to fall off.
[Flint shows a rare flash of ill-humour]
-
Flint McCullough : People get set in their ways. They don't believe everything they're told. More particularly when they're told by a woman, particularly when she's young and beautiful.
Kitty Allbright : I didn't think you'd noticed.
Flint McCullough : Don't change the subject.
[They continue their argument]
Kitty Allbright : You're not an ignorant back woodsman.
Flint McCullough : I didn't think you'd noticed.
Kitty Allbright : Don't change the subject.
