Mark Hanford returns from college at New Orleans to his dad's outpost to find that his Cheyenne mother left his father, Jack, when she learned he was marrying a white woman from St. Louis. She returned to her tribe and starved herself to death. Even though Jack is leaving his wealth to Mark, Mark decides to prevent his father's marriage and takes Ann from the wagon train to the Cheyenne encampment under false pretenses. He has decided to live with the Cheyenne and keep her as his squaw. Jack threatens to raid the camp to take her back which would start an Indian war. Flint acts as a go-between and wins Ann from Mark but she decides to stay with Mark with whom she is smitten. Jack holds visiting Sioux Indians hostage forcing Mark and Ann to return to Jack resulting in a showdown between father and son.
