Josh is asked by George Goode to meet him at his home for a job. His wife had a pet ewe named Baa-Baa on whom she doted to the exclusion of him. Fed up, he took the ewe to a remote location and left her. His wife now dressed in black won't have anything to do with him. He is willing to pay a high sum to get the pet ewe back but Josh wants nothing to do with the job. However, when George tells his wife Helen that Josh is taking the job, Josh finds it hard to turn down - especially when George gives Josh a huge down payment. The only clues they can give Josh besides the location where Baa-Baa was left is a picture of her with them and the fact she wore a gold bell. Josh starts searching finding a shepherd with a few sheep followed by a confrontation at gunpoint when he tells a cattleman he is looking for a sheep. The man refuses to listen to him. He returns to the shepherd who it turns out has 400 sheep but Josh strikes out. In town his girlfriend Hazel won't talk to him and he is the butt of many jokes until Pedro shows him a gold bell he found.
