Sgt. James Smith, the last contestant, worked for the 'Garda Síochána' (national police service of the Republic of Ireland). President John F. Kennedy would visit his ancestral home one year later, on June 26, 1963, when the 'Garda' took extra security precautions, deploying nearly half the country's police force on Kennedy's route from the Dublin airport.
The first contestant, Linda Humble, was an elevator operator at the Space Needle observation tower. A city landmark, standing at 605 ft. (184 m), it was built in the Seattle Center for the 1962 'Century 21 Exposition' (also known as the Seattle World's Fair), which drew over 2.3 million visitors.
