Space Ape at the Cape

Warning: Spoilers
This is an episode of Scooby-Doo that has stuck in my mind since I first watched it (I saw it possibly twenty odd times (maybe more) throughout my childhood. I watched it again years after I'd last seen it almost a year ago today. And it feels like yesterday I rewatched it. The episode is great, the mystery is exciting the culprit is unexpected but not so much that the audience feels it came straight out of left field. All in all it is a classic of the modern era of Scooby-Doo.

Alien in the research station.

One paragraph plot : Research centre finds an alien egg and when a searcher, Jennet Lawrence is about to research on it, the egg hutches. An alien come out of the egg and disturbing the whole station. The Mystery Incorporated gang is in the same station for visiting and learns about the events currently happening. So, they start to investigate the whole thing. They find clues which lead to uncover the person who is responsible for all of that and they successfully apprehended the right person.

For some unknown reason, this episode 3 can be said it's kind of cute one. I love alien stories. That's why I love this episode. And also, I really love Shaggy's face when he found out the one who was alien was Scooby-Doo. That's really a cute face. The result is amazing. I really didn't think she is the person who is alien. Moreover, the reason for it surprised me too. So, in summary, this episode is kind of a good one because of the Scooby-Doo's cleverness of trapping alien in that little room and also for the other things.

Spooky space ape
TheLittleSongbird2 December 2021
Scooby Doo and aliens are a good combination, proved in one of the best 'Scooby Doo Where Are You' episodes "Spooky Space Kook" and the underrated 'Scooby Doo and the Alien Invaders'. The setting was a great one and not seen a lot in the franchise up to this point. "Space Ape at the Cape" was one of my first 'What's New Scooby Doo' episodes and memories from first watch was overwhelmingly positive and one of the standout episodes.

Through young adult eyes, "Space Ape at the Cape" is easily the best of the three 'What's New Scooby Doo' episodes up to this point, liked the previous two but loved this. It's also one of the top 5 best episodes of Season 1 and one of the show's best too. Love almost everything about it, with how the setting is used, the villain and the shocker that is the denouement being especially note-worthy. "Spooky Space Kook" is still the best alien Scooby Doo episode but "Space Ape at the Cape" is nearly up there.

Almost everything is great. The animation continues to be colourful and sleek, the character animation has come on a good deal since the franchise first started. The visuals are particularly good on the alien, with the proportion size not looking odd or inconsistent and the evolving growth is cleverly done, and in the chase scene, which has some creative movement. The music fits very nicely, never jarring, the intro (theme song and visuals) continues to be suitably groovy and the chase song is very catchy.

Loved the setting, even in the episodes that didn't quite do it for me the settings always delivered. Space stations always fascinate and the one here is very imaginatively and atmospherically used, learnt a lot about how they operate too. The climax is just example of this. One of the standout elements of "Space Ape at the Cape" was the genuinely scary alien, second only to Spooky Space Kook when it comes to scary alien characters in Scooby Doo. While not being surprised at the truth about the little alien, the culprit's identity was a complete shock being someone who never suspected them.

Shaggy and Scooby provide some genuinely amusing and endearingly goofy humour. Love them together, they are such an iconic duo and their friendship is so charming. The story is fun and atmospheric with a neat mystery that is not too simple or too complicated. The climax has some tension and as said the denouement has always left me floored.

Elliot is annoying, he is supposed to be but the episode did overdo it to the point that fans may wish that he was responsible.

In conclusion, excellent. 9/10.

Not much a blast off with this episode

Warning: Spoilers
This could possibly the first ever episode I've watched of this Scooby-Doo show came on DVD along with the Snow Creature episode.

I'm not knowledgeable about science and astronomy.

The culprit as the alien was bit unpredictable - out of the other suspects, like that Elliott lad is so annoying - sort of wished he was the culprit - losing out to Velma in science competition isn't his actual motive. And there's lady janitor who Shaggy and Scooby saw a few times and the high-tech equipment Elliott showed the gang - yet I had a feeling she was just some red herring to viewers.

Trapping the alien was a new thing where this time, the alien falls into centrifugal force machine, spins at dangerous speed and mask comes apart itself, rather than gang unmasking the villain.
